OSAE Baldwin park

Observations:
Every house has a porch, slanted roofing, and an outside image of a wooden house, much like the southern tidewater style housing. The window is right next to the bathroom and another is in front of bathtub. Televisions in almost every room. Curved stairs rather than straight. Streets resemble grid rather than random jumble. Every house is unique and the street lights are older styled. Chimneys in houses even though Florida doesn't get cold enough to need one. old-time neighborhood feel.

Speculation:
Baldwin park is off of a main road and is not too far from busy areas. It is near a lake, which appeals to some, and it appeals to families by being close to jobs and stores. I believe Baldwin park is located where it is because of the convenient areas around it.

Interview:
Has there been any negative feedback on Baldwin Park?
The most negative feed back we've gotten would be about the small amount of space between homes, but that is what Baldwin park is made to be like, it gives a 1940's neighborhood feel.

What do you have to say to the fact that Baldwin Park was built on a former naval base?
It was not a naval base, it was a naval training school, therefore there are no disruptive elements that could have been left behind.

Why did you choose to build Baldwin here?
Baldwin Park was built here because there was lots of land and a central area for easy convenience. (bam, speculated that one right:)) It also was in a location that gave us the chance to have a secluded area where we could give it it's own feel.

What do you think attracts so many people here?
The sense of traditional neighborhood and convenient stores located within the premises.

Do you have any future plans to expand?
No, There are no future plans to expand Baldwin park, it is almost complete.

What do you hope to accomplish with Baldwin Park?
To sell it out and have happy home owners.

How is Baldwin Park shaping Orlando's changing society?
Baldwin doesn't very much appeal to tourists, except when they have festivals. (example, tonight is food and wine festival)

Analysis:
The woman we interviewed was very kind, she answered all of our questions and even let us record her. She said that Baldwin park is located in the area it is for convenience, it gave a secluded space where they could give the area it's own feel, and it was a wide expanse of land for the taking.

Evaluation:
Baldwin park was built in this area because there was lots of land after they shut down the naval training school and it was a central, secluded area, but not secluded enough to make getting around inconvenient.

Comparison:
My neighborhood is formatted in a more curved manner, the streets are twisting and turning all over the place, while in Baldwin park has a grid like structure, like many northern states. My neighborhood also has houses further spaced apart, while in Baldwin having a fence in between you and the next house would be impossible. The driveways are also located behind the houses rather than having a garage in front of your house like my neighborhood. Also each house has a different structure and feel, while in my neighborhood every other house has the same arc and the same roof. Also i noticed that each house had a porch and a second story in baldwin, so it resembled the original southern style homes, while in my neighborhood a porch would look silly, and if you have a second story, it's your attic. The neighborhoods felt same though, i must say. It felt like you could walk freely without fear. There were kids walking around all over the place, while in a normal neighborhood a parent has to be panicked having their kid walk across the street.
